Mr Paul Smith is a highly qualified Australian trained neurosurgeon providing brain and spine surgical services in Melbourne, rural Victoria and southern New South Wales.

Mr Smith is committed to excellence in patient care and utilises the latest neurosurgical skills and technologies to investigate and manage patients to ensure they have the best possible outcomes.

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

Mr Paul Smith has worked at numerous major neurosurgical centres in Victoria including St Vincent’s Hospital, The Austin Hospital, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Royal Children’s Hospital.

Mr Smith has also worked at Salford Royal and Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in the United Kingdom gaining broad experience in the management of difficult skull base lesions with leaders in the field.

In addition he is a Doctor of Philosophy with a research interest in neurogenesis. His work has been internationally published and widely cited in scientific literature. He has also been actively involved with teaching undergraduate medical students and training junior doctors and neurosurgical registrars.

Neurosurgical EXPERTISE

Mr Smith manages all neurosurgical conditions but his areas of particular expertise include:

1. Base of Skull surgery - acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma), complicated meningioma, trigeminal neuralgia

2. Brain tumours - meningioma, glioma, other tumours

3. Vascular neurosurgery - aneurysm, AVM, cavernoma

4. Spine surgery - instrumented, and non-instrumented spine surgery.
